Harold Kudler, MD

Internationally recognized expert in veterans’ mental health, psychiatrist, professor, and long-time advisor to U.S. government institutions on PTSD and military mental health. A Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, President of the Carolina Psychoanalytic Center, and Chair of Veteran Initiatives at the American Psychoanalytic Association, he also served for many years in a senior leadership role at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, where he oversaw programs supporting veterans, including military chaplains. He is Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke University School of Medicine. For more than 40 years, he has advanced evidence-based approaches to psychological trauma, mental health recovery, and support for service members and veterans.
